Cannes Film Festival

May 12, 2010 marked the beginning of the 63rd Cannes Film Festival. Below are clips from past festivals

From its inception in the 1940s, the Cannes Film Festival has attracted actors and celebrities around the world. Above, Paris Hilton attends the 2006 festival.

In 1963, Alfred Hitchcock’s film The Birds opened the Cannes Film Festival. This year, Robin Hood, directed by Ridley Scott, premiered opening night.

At the 2010 Cannes Film Festival, Tim Burton will serve as the President of the Jury. Above, Burton discusses the making of his Oscar nominated film The Nightmare Before Christmas.

Every year, a number of films compete for the festivals highest price, the Palme d’Or. Francis Ford Coppola, above discussing The Godfather, has won the prize twice for his movies The Conversation (1974) and Apocalypse Now (1979).

Above, Quentin Tarantino arrives at the 2009 Cannes Film Festival. Tarantino won the Palme d’Or in 1994 for Pulp Fiction.
