ADVERTISING: Urban advertising agency, Sanders\Wingo, was working on a national commercial for AT&T called, “Fanatics.” The spot, which had a NCAA® March Madness® theme, promoted AT&T’s 3G network that lets users talk and surf the Web at the same time. Sanders\Wingo came to Thought Equity Motion to license a clip that featured a dunk from a 2001 USC vs. Boston College game. During the commercial, the clip was shown on the screen of a Motorola BACKFLIP™ cell phone. Our research team dug in to help find the right clip, for instance the basketball teams’ jersey colors had to align with AT&T’s corporate colors, orange and white. Thought Equity Motion’s Rights & Clearances department also cleared all three players in the tournament clip. To watch the commercial online, click here.
