SPORTS: ESPN the Magazine came to Thought Equity Motion to license a clip from the 2008 NCAA® Elite Eight game between Davidson and Kansas, as they wanted to use a still from the last few seconds of the game as a full page image to run alongside an article in their April 5, 2010 print issue. Since the 2008 game was not shot in HD, the resolution wasn’t high enough for a full page in print. However, Thought Equity Motion and ESPN came up with an alternative solution that turned out to be more creative than a full page photo…Instead of using one image to illustrate the article, “In the Big Dance it all Comes Down to…Final Possession,” ESPN ended up featuring single frame screen grabs from seven pre-determined moments in the 2008 game. The seven images were positioned across two full pages of the magazine in a filmstrip format, creating a visual timeline of how key moments from the final 16.7 seconds in the game played out. If you have the April 5 issue of ESPN the Magazine on hand, the article can be seen on page 56.
