Footage from the Occupy Wall Street protest in New York

On September 17th 2011, more than 1,000 protesters gathered in lower Manhattan and began marching down Broadway towards Zuccotti Park. A few hundred of the protesters spent the night in the park and a crowd again began to gather the next day. Today, more than a month later, the crowd in New York has grown to more than 2,000 and the movement known as “Occupy Wall Street” has spread to 82 countries around the world.

As the movement has grown in size and gained the attention of a world audience a message of, “We are the 99%” started to take hold.

While many of the participants return to their homes at night, others sleep in Zuccotti Park in sleeping bags and under blankets.

After more than a month of protests and demonstrations in New York City, it is clear that this movement is far from over.
