The Oprah Winfrey Show was rooted in Oprah’s radio program that started on AM Chicago on January 2, 1984 . The first telecast of The Oprah Winfrey Show was on September 8, 1986.

Oprah had the opportunity to interview a plethora of politicians and celebrities, such as Tom Cruise, the Little Rock Nine, and Elizabeth Taylor.

As of 2011, The Oprah Winfrey Show has been the longest-running daytime talk show in the United States. Oprah won’t be disappearing from television since she plans to begin a new talk show on her own television network, OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network.
